With the recent enforcement of mandated care minutes, we find ourselves in a precarious situation in the aged care sector. There’s a fine balance between maintaining occupancy and managing workforce costs efficiently, all while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Managing the balance in the AN-ACC world now requires three (3) key workflows: Forecast AN-ACC classes for pre-admission and current residents to manage care revenue; Establish consistent Roster Demand Template/s; Control and understand your data to then strategically request reclassifications.

Following the October 5 Department Webinar: Quarterly Financial Report – what’s changed?, several changes to QFR Reporting were outlined and subsequent updates were made to the Care Minutes & 24/7 RN Responsibility Guide.
In accordance with the Department’s Reform Agenda, the Department is initiating individual Care Time Assessments (audits) of your reported care time data as of October 1st.
Mirus Metrics now offers new and insightful Business Intelligence based on a complete AN-ACC dataset beyond just Medicare claims. Analysis of Medicare claim data alone is only half the story.
With ongoing consultation on the regulatory model for aged care, the Department of Health and Aged Care conducted a webinar on the design of the new model in May. As we progress towards the go-live date in July 2024, we are putting together a summary of the key concepts and insights from the consultation and documents.
Within 18 months of 1st October, every provider will receive an assessment, and this will reoccur every 3 years or at random based on risk. The purpose of these assessments is to ensure accuracy of care minute reporting in Quarterly Financial Reports and 24/7 RN time in line with the 24/7 RN responsibility.
On the 1st October 2023, care minute targets became mandatory and the care minutes associated with each AN-ACC class were adjusted.
