Occupancy surpasses 90% for the first time since 2019

Rob Covino presents Mirus Industry Analysis (MIA), a series of monthly insights into the key performance indicators and cumulative industry trends from the 90,000+ beds we monitor for financial sustainability.

Welcome to the February 2025 edition.

Revenue

In January, the industry ADS declined by -0.26 cents to $297.18. Total claiming activity saw a notable decline of -2.55% to 4.32%, likely due to workforce resourcing factors, as AMOs balanced leave requests among their teams over the school holiday period.

Occupancy

Occupied bed days reached a significant milestone, rising to 90.17% in January – the first time occupancy has exceeded 90% since December 2019.

Workforce management

Total direct care minutes worked declined by -3.12% to 208.24 minutes, falling well below the desired 215-minute national average. RN minutes also decreased by -1.86% from December to January, reaching 43.50 minutes per resident per day.
